Dought in the Iraqi Marshes
In recent years, Iraq's southern marshes—once among the largest wetlands in the Middle East—have faced severe drought due to declining water levels, climate change, and upstream dam activity. The drying of these wetlands has led to widespread environmental degradation, the displacement of local communities, and the death of livestock and wildlife. Once a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its rich biodiversity, the marshes now struggle to survive under worsening ecological conditions.
